Interviews are being set immediately, you are encouraged to apply today GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Contributes to the companys mission and vision by utilizing the nursing process in planning, executing, and evaluating the nursing care rendered postoperative until patient is dismissed from the facility. Nursing care meets the standards of the profession, the policies and procedures of the Center, and is appropriate to the Centers patient population to identify patient and family needs. OPERATIONAL DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: --- Demonstrates necessary practical, technical or specialized knowledge and skills required for the role of the pain management nurse related to pre and post procedure patient care and regulatory standards of practice. --- Prepares patient care area adequately and ensures availability of necessary pain management equipment and supplies. --- Greets patient and family in a timely manner and keeps them informed of any delays/changes. --- Assesses patients level of fear/anxiety and provides comfort and support for patient and family. --- Checks patients armband and uses two patient identifiers to verify patient prior to all interventions and medications. --- Receives preoperative physicians orders and implements accordingly. --- Conducts complete patient assessment and evaluation of each patient prior to procedure, which includes history (i.e. list of current medications and relevant history), physical (vital signs, review of systems) and psychological assessment. --- Leads the team in the time out process to make sure all necessary information is communicated with the entire patient care team prior to beginning the procedure and during the de-briefing session after the procedure. --- Demonstrates safe medication practices in reviewing, transcribing, and administering medications (i.e. orders, preparing and labeling medications, 7 medication rights, documentation, appropriate wasting of narcotics, etc.). --- Uses aseptic and sterile technique as indicated by intervention (i.e. IV start, during procedure hand washing). --- Reports test abnormalities and any other pertinent information to surgeon, anesthesiologist, operating room staff, and other pre-operative area staff as necessary. --- Maintains patient privacy, comfort, and safety in the holding area i.e. bed rails up, brakes on stretchers, etc. --- Demonstrates knowledge and management of patient during pain management procedures including recognizing and being readily available to address the unexpected. Notifies physician immediately of an untoward change in condition. --- Recognizes emergency situations and responds effectively in a calm and controlled manner. --- Provides a safe and comforting environment for patient and family while restraining patient for safety reasons, as needed and in accordance with policy. --- Prepares and administers medications in accordance with current practice (i.e. pre-op antibiotics, preparing/labeling medications on/off field, identifying high alert medications, narcotic waste). --- Demonstrates understanding of usual pain management drugs and recognizes need for reversal drugs. --- Assures that patient meets all discharge criteria and ensures that patient and family receives and understands written discharge instruction. --- Documents all appropriate patient information in accordance with charting guidelines. --- Relays appropriate hand off communication to appropriate nursing personnel if indicated to ensure continuity of care. --- Conducts patient follow up calls. --- Takes responsibility for careful and accurate handling and/or logging of narcotics, and bio-hazardous materials. --- Utilizes appropriate body mechanics in moving patients and stretchers to prevent injury to patient and self. --- Demonstrates knowledge related to maintenance and cleanliness of instruments and equipment. Maintains a sanitary environment for the provision of patient care.
