As a Human Resources (HR) Assistant you will perform a variety of clerical and adminstrative duties in support of specific areas relative to personnel management and human resources. Depending on the area for which you are assigned, your responsibilities may include personnel and payroll accounting and reporting functions in a Payroll Center, supporting others in designing,developing,executing, managing,and administering training programs,employee benefits, and/or personnel/payroll processing. Learn more about this agency Responsibilities As a Human Resources Assistant you will: * Provide assistance and administrative support, gather and analyze automated or manual data and apply knowledge of personnel processing. * Perform error resolution to resolve systemic and individual personnel and pay related problems by researching tables and databases, tracing personnel records and payroll actions, and reconstructing accounts and records. * Analyze problems to determine trends and recommend solutions/changes in processes and procedures. * Take appropriate action to correct deficiencies and identify and elevate systemic problems with the automated systems. * Screen personnel action requests, reconcile records with master personnel files * Review and research personnel information reports to ensure that the correct risk level and type of investigation are assigned. * Maintain control records for correspondence and work assignments, establishing and following up on suspense dates. OR You may substitute education for experience as follows: 2 years of education above the high school level. Education may have been obtained in an accredited junior college, college, university, business, secretarial, or technical school. GS-5 LEVEL: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-4 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Demonstrate knowledge of standard procedures and requirements relating to an assigned personnel program to perform or explain a variety of clerical duties; Knowledge of staff assignments and operating policies to refer problems, provide information and resolve personnel issues; and knowledge of personnel automated systems used to process personnel actions, analyze, review products and identify problems. OR A Bachelor's degree or four (4) years of education above high school in any field of study from an accredited college or university. GS-6 LEVEL: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-5 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Demonstrate knowledge of personnel rules, procedures, or operations of the assigned area to perform a wide variety of interrelated personnel clerical and technical work; Knowledge of staff assignments, commitments, deadlines, operating policies and priorities to coordinate, refer problems/issues, provide information and resolve problems; Knowledge of personnel automated systems used to process personnel and pay roll actions, analyze, review products, identify problems and develop recommendations; Knowledge of oral and written communication techniques to explaining programs, clarifying problems and assist in preparing course material. GS-7 LEVEL: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-6 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Demonstrate knowledge of IRS' organizational structure and human resource policies, rules, and procedures sufficient to provide advice and information, carry out assignments and resolve issues; Extensive knowledge of personnel automated systems used to process a wide variety of personnel actions and payroll documents, analyze, review products, identify problems and develop recommendations; Knowledge of oral and written communication techniques to provide advice, prepare report narratives and basic instructions, to effectively communicate in explaining complex programs and in clarifying difficult problems.
