POSITION SUMMARY
As a growing facility with a rich, 52-year history, Polytainers is
looking for an Maintenance Supervisor to help drive a team of
talented Maintenance Technicians, Automation Technicians,
Millwrights, and Mold Technicians as we grow our facility with
additional machines!
AN OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Molding Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance
Supervisor will have direct oversight to 4-8 Maintenance
Technicians, Mold Technicians, Automation Technicians, and 1-2
Maintenance Leads across one or more shifts. The Supervisor is
responsible for the oversight and execution of troubleshooting and
repairing for various injection molding machines, thermoforming
machines, and lid stacking equipment on the production floor. The
Supervisor oversees maintenance scheduling, productivity, and
overall equipment functionality of our molding maintenance team
members on the shift. The Maintenance Supervisor will also handle
personnel issues and lead continuous improvement projects, in
partnership with the Molding Maintenance Manager.
This position can be filled as a day shift or night shift role.
THE DEPARTMENT
This position is in the Molding Maintenance department which has
24/7 operations across four 12-hour shifts (7p-7a or 7a-7p).
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain a High Level of Plant and Machine Safety:
- Ensures all team members are trained and performing in a safe
andefficient manner.
- Ensure accident/incident investigations are carried out and
documented to determine root causes, corrective actions and
following-up to ensure completion.
- Promote proactive identification and elimination of
hazards.
- Correct unsafe acts or conditions, ensuring health & safety
policies are followed.
- Regularly audit the Shop Floor to ensure compliance with
policies and procedures and ensure that inspections are
appropriately documented.
Ensure the Achievement of Maintenance and Production Targets
- Assign Maintenance chines and assignments throughout the
department, working with the molding shift supervisor to ensure
that there is appropriate floor coverage.
- Troubleshoot production & equipment issues, escalating and
documenting issues that they are unable to resolve to the
Maintenance Manager.
- Understand shift maintenance and performance targets and how
they contribute enabling to Molding and Toronto Operations
objectives to be met.
- Monitor machine performance and make adjustments as needed.
Training and Onboarding New Team Members
- Onboard new Maintenance Technicians and Mold Technicians and
ensure they have appropriate resources for strong performance.
- Develop training plan and assign trainers, as appropriate.
- Consistently monitor progress and performance of new hires and
offer resources, guidance, coaching, and feedback as needed.
- Report new team member progress to Manager.
Supervise Shift Maintenance Technicians and Mold Technicians
- Ensure that all team members are treated in an equal and fair
manner, abiding by the company Standards of Conduct.
- Be responsible for the supervision of direct reporting Team
Members.
- Set daily shift objectives and assist maintenance team members
in fulfilling the outlined goals and objectives.
- Execute and implement personal development and training
plans.
- Manage vacation schedules and ensure appropriate shift coverage
during team member time off.
- Identify vacancies and work with HR to recruit and hire as
required.
- Performance Manage as required and provide timely feedback to
Team Members.
- Ensure appropriate procedures and Standard Work is established,
documented and personnel are trained.
- Ensure cross-training and back-up support is adequate.
Assist Team with Set-Up and Repair of Robots
- Assists shift personnel with set up and repair of robots, to
include:
- Robot set ups, mold alignments, and after mold set-ups.
- Troubleshoot and repair escalated robot issues.
- Replaces high speed receiver cups and suction cup plates.
- Identifies and corrects vacuum default, servo default, transfer
vacuum default, tower vacuum default, eye default, robot not out
default, proximity switches, cycle not complete and rail eye
default.
- Replaces MRS cylinders, three position four way and five way
valves and photo eye sensors when damaged or defective.
- Stack counters, timers, vacuum settings, alignment teach modes
are done by touch screen display.
- Troubleshoot faults on robots, blow by adjustments.
- Glues and repairs damage high speed retrieval system carbon
arms.
- Replaces steel cable spools when broken and adjusts tension
weekly.
- Adjusts vision system parameters.
- Re-alignment of Dummies.
- Check static cables.
- Troubleshoot and replace sensor bricks.
- Greases Thompson liner bearings and replaces suction and
receiver cups.
- Cleans all vacuum blower hoses and checks oil less vacuum motor
filters .
Continuous Improvement Activities & Projects
- Assist in the implementation of continuous improvement
activities.
- Identify continuous improvement activities.
- Promote a continuous improvement culture.
Assist Team with Preventative Maintenance and Repairs on Stackers,
Conveyor Belts, and Parts Handling Equipment
- Assist with preventative maintenance and repairs on parts
handling equipment, as needed, to meet shift production
targets.
- Activities could include:
- Removes and replaces main drive motors and adjustable
sheaves.
- Performs vertical, horizontal and angular alignments and
adjusts belt tension.
- Lubricates/replaces chain sprockets.
- Repairs silent chains and checks on daily basis unusual noise
vibrations.
- Checks gear reducers on conveyors and stackers for oil levels
as per schedule.
- Cleans and replaces filters on vacuum motor, vanes and
hoses.
- Performs preventative maintains work (replaces/tracks vacuum
belts, replaces damaged bearings, splices and glues conveyor belts,
removes and replaces broken alligator links and clipper
laces).
- Adjusts inline section, belt space and speed tension of belts
and services mechanized pulleys.
- Calculates and setup the angle, space and speed differences for
spin bars.
- Adjust photo eye sensors to send signals to PLC.
- Adjusts pneumatic solenoids valves, and air regulators for
required pressure.
- Makes guards with Lexan and mounts them.
- Maintains stacking machines safety switches on guards as per
regulations.
- Maintains sealer equipment for each machine.
- Adjusts counter, cutting and separation time and PLC controlled
magnetic switches on cylinder to move in and out.
- Levels stacking machines with take-out conveyors when they are
brought closer to molding station.
- Balances equipment to eliminate vibration.
- Replaces and aligns vibrator feeder tray and ensures container
is properly oriented.
- Sets up unscramble discs to separate parts to go on
conveyors.
- Sets up spin bars for space and stack size.
- Adjusts operational sequences for PLC's and cams.
- Fine tunes stacking machines.
- Replaces orientating heads.
ADMINISTRATION
- In the absence of the Maintenance Manager, scheduling time off
for vacation, sick time, training, etc., for all molding
maintenance team members. Ensure that all gaps are properly
backfilled.
- Create and maintain maintenance schedule.
- Distribute shift assignments at the start of and throughout
scheduled shifts.
- Ensure routine communications sessions take place with the shop
floor.
- Provide Maintenance and CMMS Inspection forms and ensure that
they are filled out correctly on a daily basis.
- Conduct shift handover meeting to communicate with incoming
shift.
- Lead the production communication meeting as required.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Educational Requirements: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
required
Minimum Experience/Field: Minimum three years experience in a
leadership or supervisory role in a production environment.
Courses Required: College Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in
Maintenance, Plastics, or Industrial Manufacturing strongly
preferred
Computer Skills: Good PC skills including working knowledge of
Microsoft Office applications.
Communication Skills: Fluent in English with good verbal and
written communications skills.
Additional Education/Experience/Skills : At least 5-7 years'
experience in a supervisory/leadership role in a production
environment strongly preferred.Knowledge of industrial maintenance
equipment, plastics, industrial automation, and/or injection
molding. Fluent in English with good verbal and written
communications skills. Well-versed in automation and robotics in a
high-speed environment. Ability to effectively lead and coach
people to drive performance objectives.
